It's finally here!!!
Time to get your read on, folks!
“I Wish I Were Engulfed in Flames” (my memoir about living and laughing with my two autistic sons) is now available in HARDCOVER and in KINDLE ~ and will be available in bookstores in January.
*Early reviews*
VERDICT: Brash, sarcastic, irreverent, heartfelt, and touching, Decker’s memoir is all this and more. Highly recommended. —Library Journal
“This is not your mother’s autism book! Raw, honest with ‘she said what?!’ laughs on every page.” —Kim Stagliano, author of All I Can Handle: I’m No Mother Teresa
As always, I'm continually working on my documentary about autism, so if you've got some time, I've uploaded some clips of what we've been up to in 2011.
Happy Holidays everyone!

A library trip this past Friday to escape the prison that is my home turned into a feeling of excitement as I found what can only be described as "winning lottery numbers" in the form of your book. I searched "autism" "asperger's" as I always do, hoping something new has come in that I haven't already read and dissected. The search results popped up on the Windows 1987 library screen and there was the cover of your book. I am in love with that vintage housewife rockabilly look so I didn't even care what it was about...I just knew I had to check this book out. I read the inside jacket and immediately snapped it up. I just HAD to read this book as you see, I also have 2 boys with autism. Aven, who is 5, with Asperger's. Jake, who will be 2 next month, is nonverbal and autistic. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention we also have my boyfriend's son living with us. And wouldn't you know it? He also has Asperger's. I figured, if anyone knows what I am going through, it's gotta be you. I can't put your book down and I plan to finish it tonight (those parenting duties keep delaying my reading). Then I plan to buy your book. It deserves a spot on my bookcase of fame. I've been reading excerpts to my boyfriend (father of my Jake) and he is anxious to read it. I'm too selfish to let him read this one so I'll let him read the purchased copy.
ReplyDeleteIs this comment long enough yet? Probably. But I have to tell you THANK YOU for writing this book. I could spend way too much time here raving about the awesomesauce that is this book but I won't. I'm just gonna go finish reading it now. :)
